xneelo

Step by step: add the Notix DKIM, SPF, MX and DMARC records in the xneelo control panel.

Use this guide if your domain's nameservers end in host-h.net or dns-h.com. xneelo used to be Hetzner South Africa. You add three TXT records and one MX record with the Manage DNS tool in the xneelo Control Panel.

Open your domain in Domains first and keep the page open. You copy every name and value from its DNS records table.

The records to add

TypeHostValuePriority
TXTnotix._domainkeyp=... (copy the whole key)none
TXTmailv=spf1 include:_spf.usenotix.dev ~allnone
MXmailfeedback-smtp.<region>.amazonses.com10
TXT_dmarcv=DMARC1; p=none;none

These names are for a domain added as acme.com. Notix shows each name in the short form, without your main domain on the end, so copy it from your domain page as it is. If you added a subdomain such as news.acme.com, the names read mail.news and notix._domainkey.news; _dmarc stays the same. The DKIM name and key are different for every domain. The MX value names the region your domain sends from, for example feedback-smtp.eu-west-1.amazonses.com, so copy it from your domain page too.

Add them at xneelo

  1. Open Manage DNS

    Log in to the xneelo Control Panel and select the product, for example Web Hosting, from the side menu.

    • For a domain with web hosting, go to Domain Tools and select Manage DNS.
    • For a domain without hosting, go to DNS/Name Servers and click the arrow next to Manage DNS Records.
  2. Add each TXT record

    Click + Add record and select TXT from the Type list.

    1. In Host, enter the name from the table, for example _dmarc.
    2. In Value, also called Destination, paste the value.
    3. Click Add.

    Tick Remain on this page after adding record to add the next one straight away. Repeat for the DKIM, SPF and DMARC records.

  3. Add the MX record

    Click + Add record and select MX from the Type list. Enter mail as the host, paste the MX value as the destination, set the priority to 10 if the form asks for one, and click Add. xneelo's help pages do not name the MX fields, so the labels on your screen may differ.

Things to know at xneelo

  • xneelo's own examples use @ for your main domain and _dmarc for DMARC, so enter the short names from the table, such as mail.
  • xneelo's pages disagree on quotation marks around TXT values: some say to use them, the SPF example does not. Paste the value as Notix shows it. If the record does not show as found after a few hours, edit it and wrap the value in double quotes.
  • xneelo asks for a full stop at the end of a full domain name in a target field (it says so for SRV and CNAME records). If the MX record shows up with your domain added after the value, edit it and add a dot at the end: feedback-smtp.eu-west-1.amazonses.com.
  • The control panel checks for a second SPF record on the same name and helps stop you adding one.

SPF and DMARC: check before you add

  • SPF. A name can have only one SPF record. Notix puts its SPF on mail, not on your main domain, so it never clashes with the SPF your main domain may already have for your mailbox provider. Leave that one as it is. If mail itself already has a TXT record that starts with v=spf1, do not add a second one: edit it to include include:_spf.usenotix.dev.
  • DMARC. A domain can have only one DMARC record. If _dmarc already has a record that starts with v=DMARC1, keep it and skip the Notix one. Notix accepts the record you have. Two DMARC records cancel each other out, and mailbox providers then ignore both.
  • MX on `mail`. The MX record only takes bounce and complaint reports back to Notix. It does not touch the MX records on your main domain, so your normal inbox keeps working.

After you save

xneelo says to allow 2 to 24 hours for DNS changes to spread. Most records show in Notix within about 10 minutes.

You do not need to watch the page. Notix checks your records again on its own, and the domain turns Verified when the required records are found. To check straight away, open the domain in Domains and press Verify again. If a record is found at the wrong name, for example mail.acme.com.acme.com, the domain page says what to fix.

The records you add stay at your DNS host. Do not delete them later: Notix keeps checking them while you send.
