Estimate a month.

A marketing email is one unit. A transactional email is 0.5 of a unit. Move the sliders and we pick the plan that costs least. Past a plan's units, sending stops unless pay-as-you-go is on.

Units

Plans count units, not emails.

A marketing email costs more to send than a transactional one, so it uses more of your plan. That is all a unit is.

How it counts.

How many emails is 50,000 units?

  • 50,000 marketing emails, or
  • 100,000 transactional emails, or
  • a mix: 20,000 marketing (20,000 units) plus 60,000 transactional (30,000 units) is 50,000 units.

Contacts, contact books and suppression entries are never counted. Your units reset at the start of each billing month.

At the limit

Sending stops at your limit, unless you choose otherwise.

You never get a surprise bill. When your team uses all its units, sending stops until the next billing month. Sign-in and verification codes keep going out, up to 500 a day (more on bigger plans).

Pay-as-you-go keeps you sending.

  • It is off until a team admin turns it on in the dashboard.
  • Past your units, it costs $1 per 1,000 marketing emails and $0.50 per 1,000 transactional emails.
  • There is no spending cap. Turn it off at any time.
  • Card teams pay on the monthly invoice. Wallet teams pay from the wallet each day.
  • Every team admin gets an email when it is turned on or off.

An example month.

A Pro team sends 60,000 marketing emails with pay-as-you-go on.

Pro plan
$15
10,000 extra marketing emails
$10
Total
$25

With pay-as-you-go off, the same team would stop at 50,000 and pay $15.

FAQ

Billing questions, answered.

What is a unit?
A unit is how we count what you send. A marketing email is 1 unit. A transactional email is 0.5 of a unit. Broadcasts and automations are marketing. An email you send through the API or SMTP is transactional, unless you mark it MARKETING. So Pro's 50,000 units is 50,000 marketing emails, 100,000 transactional emails, or a mix. The free welcome send does not count.
What happens when I reach my limit?
Sending stops until your units reset at the start of your next billing month, unless pay-as-you-go is on. Emails already queued wait; nothing is lost. You get an email at 80% and at 100%, and a banner shows in the dashboard. To keep sending, move to a bigger plan or turn on pay-as-you-go.
Do sign-in and verification codes stop at the limit?
Not straight away. On a paid plan, once your units are used up, sign-in and verification codes sent through Notix keep going out, up to 500 a day on Pro, 1,000 on Scale and 3,000 on Business. Past that, they stop until the next day. They still count as units.
How is pay-as-you-go billed?
Pay-as-you-go is off until a team admin turns it on in the dashboard. It cannot be turned on from the API. With it on, sending past your units costs $1 per 1,000 marketing emails and $0.50 per 1,000 transactional emails. There is no spending cap. A card team pays on its monthly invoice. A wallet team pays from its wallet each day. Every team admin gets an email each time it is turned on or off.
Which currencies can I pay in?
Pay by card in US dollars. Or top up your Notix wallet and pay your plan from it, in dollars, naira or shillings. Teams in Nigeria and Kenya can pay in naira or shillings from the wallet, by card, bank transfer or mobile money. Wallet top-ups are prepaid and not refundable.
Can I change plans?
Yes. A team admin can change plan in Billing & wallet. A move up takes effect at once, and you pay a prorated charge for the rest of the billing month. A move down, or back to Free, takes effect at your next renewal. If you cancel, your plan runs to the end of the month you paid for. Nothing is deleted when you change plans.
Do I pay for storing contacts?
No. Contact books, lists and suppression entries are not metered. You pay for emails that leave the building.
How do I move off Notix later?
Export contacts and suppression as CSV, and point the SMTP relay somewhere else. The API is a plain JSON endpoint with a published OpenAPI reference, so there is no format you cannot read.

Verify a domain, copy an API key, make one call. The free plan does not ask for a card.
