Vercel

Step by step: add the Notix DKIM, SPF, MX and DMARC records for a domain whose DNS is at Vercel.

Use this guide if your domain uses Vercel's nameservers, ns1.vercel-dns.com and ns2.vercel-dns.com. You add three TXT records and one MX record on the domain's page in the Vercel dashboard, or with the Vercel CLI.

Open your domain in Domains first and keep the page open. You copy every name and value from its DNS records table.

The records to add

TypeNameValuePriority
TXTnotix._domainkeyp=... (copy the whole key)none
TXTmailv=spf1 include:_spf.usenotix.dev ~allnone
MXmailfeedback-smtp.<region>.amazonses.com10
TXT_dmarcv=DMARC1; p=none;none

These names are for a domain added as acme.com. Notix shows each name in the short form, without your main domain on the end, so copy it from your domain page as it is. If you added a subdomain such as news.acme.com, the names read mail.news and notix._domainkey.news; _dmarc stays the same. The DKIM name and key are different for every domain. The MX value names the region your domain sends from, for example feedback-smtp.eu-west-1.amazonses.com, so copy it from your domain page too.

Add them at Vercel

  1. Open the domain

    On your team's dashboard, open Domains in the sidebar and click your domain. If Vercel shows Enable Vercel DNS, click it to open the DNS record form.

  2. Add each TXT record

    1. In Name, enter the name from the table, for example _dmarc.
    2. Set Type to TXT.
    3. In Value, paste the value.
    4. Leave TTL at its default.
    5. Click Add.

    Repeat for the DKIM, SPF and DMARC records.

  3. Add the MX record

    1. In Name, enter mail.
    2. Set Type to MX.
    3. In Value, paste the MX value, for example feedback-smtp.eu-west-1.amazonses.com.
    4. Set the priority to 10.
    5. Click Add.

Things to know at Vercel

  • Vercel wants only the part before your domain: for support.example.com you enter support, not the full name. Leave Name blank only for the main domain, which none of the Notix records use.
  • Vercel's default TTL is 60 seconds, so later changes show quickly.

Or use the Vercel CLI

The same records with vercel dns add, for a domain acme.com. Use your own names and values from the domain page:

vercel dns add acme.com notix._domainkey TXT 'p=...'
vercel dns add acme.com mail TXT 'v=spf1 include:_spf.usenotix.dev ~all'
vercel dns add acme.com mail MX feedback-smtp.eu-west-1.amazonses.com 10
vercel dns add acme.com _dmarc TXT 'v=DMARC1; p=none;'

SPF and DMARC: check before you add

  • SPF. A name can have only one SPF record. Notix puts its SPF on mail, not on your main domain, so it never clashes with the SPF your main domain may already have for your mailbox provider. Leave that one as it is. If mail itself already has a TXT record that starts with v=spf1, do not add a second one: edit it to include include:_spf.usenotix.dev.
  • DMARC. A domain can have only one DMARC record. If _dmarc already has a record that starts with v=DMARC1, keep it and skip the Notix one. Notix accepts the record you have. Two DMARC records cancel each other out, and mailbox providers then ignore both.
  • MX on `mail`. The MX record only takes bounce and complaint reports back to Notix. It does not touch the MX records on your main domain, so your normal inbox keeps working.

After you save

Vercel says record changes can take up to 24 hours to spread. Most records show in Notix within about 10 minutes.

You do not need to watch the page. Notix checks your records again on its own, and the domain turns Verified when the required records are found. To check straight away, open the domain in Domains and press Verify again. If a record is found at the wrong name, for example mail.acme.com.acme.com, the domain page says what to fix.

The records you add stay at your DNS host. Do not delete them later: Notix keeps checking them while you send.
