Pay-as-you-go

Keep sending past your units: the price, how it is billed, and how a team admin turns it on.

Pay-as-you-go lets a paid plan keep sending after it has used all its units. It is off until a team admin turns it on. With it off, sending stops at your limit, so you never get a bill you did not choose.

What it costs

EmailPrice past your units
Marketing$1 per 1,000 emails
Transactional$0.50 per 1,000 emails

That is $0.001 a unit. There is no spending cap. A team that pays from a wallet in naira or shillings pays its wallet's own price, shown on the Pay-as-you-go card.

You only pay for sending past your units, and only for days pay-as-you-go was on.

An example

A Pro team sends 60,000 marketing emails in a month with pay-as-you-go on.

  • The first 50,000 are included in Pro: $15.
  • The other 10,000 cost $10.
  • The month costs $25.

With pay-as-you-go off, the same team stops at 50,000 and pays $15.

How you pay

  • A card team pays for extra sending on its monthly Stripe invoice.
  • A wallet team pays from its wallet each day. Keep enough in the wallet for the extra sending not yet charged.

Turn it on or off

  1. Open Billing & wallet

Go to Billing & wallet in Settings.

  2. Use the Pay-as-you-go switch

Switching on asks you to confirm and shows the price. Switching off stops extra sending from then on. Mail already accepted while it was on still goes out and is billed.

Only a team admin can change it, and only in the dashboard. The API and the MCP server can read it but never change it. Every team admin gets an email each time it is switched on or off, as a record of the change. Members can see the card but not change it, and see the extra units so far but not what they cost.

When the card asks you to act

  • Re-confirm pay-as-you-go: your card subscription cannot bill extra sending yet, so sending stops at your units. Switch it on again to fix this.
  • Your wallet can't cover more extra sending: top up your wallet to keep sending.
  • Paused: pay-as-you-go does not work during a free month of Pro or while a payment for your plan is overdue. Sending stops at your units until the plan is paid.

Read it from code

Get usage returns payAsYouGo with on, includedUnits, usedUnits, overageUnitsThisPeriod, overageCost (only for a key a team admin made that is not limited to one domain) and blocked. Get prices returns what extra sending costs. The MCP tools get_usage and get_pricing return the same.
