Email in the app Bolt builds.
Bolt generates full-stack JavaScript apps in the browser. Ask it for a server route that sends with notix-js and reads the key from the environment, keep the key out of any file the frontend imports, and verify your sending domain before you deploy.
Send an email from Bolt.
Add email sending with Notix (npm package notix-js, docs at https://usenotix.dev/docs).
Send from a server-side route only, reading the key from the NOTIX_API_KEY
environment variable. Never put the key in client code. Use a server route, not the frontend.
import { Notix } from "notix-js";
const notix = new Notix(process.env.NOTIX_API_KEY!);
export async function POST(request: Request) {
const { to } = await request.json();
const { data, error } = await notix.emails.send({
from: "Acme <hello@acme.com>",
to,
subject: "Welcome to Acme",
html: "<p>Glad you are here.</p>",
});
if (error) return Response.json({ error }, { status: 502 });
return Response.json({ id: data?.emailId });
}
The from address must be on a domain you have verified in Notix. Step by step: Connect your AI.
Ask for a server-side send, with the key in the environment.
When Bolt writes the email code for your app, ask for it in a server route or server function that reads NOTIX_API_KEY from the environment. A key in client code is public the moment the app is deployed.
The from address must be on a domain you have verified in Notix. Until it is, check sends with the Notix-Dry-Run: true header, which sends nothing.
Give an AI app the Notix tools.
Notix hosts an MCP server at https://app.usenotix.dev/api/mcp. Bolt is where the app is built; to have an AI app call Notix directly, give it this address and header from Connect your AI.
Ask for a dry run first: Notix checks the send and sends nothing. A Live key sends from one verified domain, asks for approval before a send to more than 50 people by default, and cannot delete anything or change billing.
