Notix
Integrations

Auth.js magic links through the Notix relay.

Auth.js sends its email sign-in links through the Nodemailer provider, and Nodemailer speaks SMTP. Give the provider the Notix relay as its server and every magic link goes out from your own domain, tracked like any other send.

The send

Send an email from Auth.js.

Auth.js v5 with the Nodemailer provider (needs an adapter)
import NextAuth from "next-auth";
import Nodemailer from "next-auth/providers/nodemailer";

export const { handlers, auth, signIn, signOut } = NextAuth({
  // adapter: your database adapter; email sign-in stores tokens there.
  providers: [
    Nodemailer({
      server: {
        host: "smtp.usenotix.dev",
        port: 465,
        secure: true,
        auth: { user: "notix", pass: process.env.NOTIX_API_KEY },
      },
      from: "Acme <signin@acme.com>",
    }),
  ],
});

The from address must be on a domain you have verified in Notix. Step by step: the SMTP quickstart and the longer guide to sending email from Next.js.

Environment

One API key, kept on the server.

Create an API key on the API keys page of the Notix console and store it as NOTIX_API_KEY in .env.local beside AUTH_SECRET. Never give it the NEXT_PUBLIC_ prefix: variables with that prefix are built into the browser bundle, and anyone who opens the site can read them.

A Send only key is enough for code that only sends: if it leaks, it cannot read your contacts or delete a domain.

.env
NOTIX_API_KEY=notix_xxxxxxxxxxxx
NOTIX_WEBHOOK_SECRET=whsec_xxxxxxxxxxxx
FAQ

Questions, answered.

What are the SMTP settings?
Host smtp.usenotix.dev, port 465 for implicit TLS or 587 for STARTTLS, username notix, and your Notix API key as the password. The from address must be on a domain you have verified in Notix.
Does the relay treat magic links differently from the API?
No. Mail through the relay goes through the same pipeline as the API: the same suppression list, tracking and webhooks.
Why is my send refused with a from-address error?
The from address must be on a domain you have verified in Notix. Add the domain in the console, publish the DNS records it shows, and wait for verification; until then, sends from that domain are refused.
